To help new students prepare for classes and achieve success in their studies, the Library holds a series of orientation sessions from 3 to 18 September 2026.

Each session will last for 30 minutes and will cover the following key issues:

• Library opening hours
• Loan details (incl. renewal & late return arrangements)
• Search for books & articles with AI and access e-resources off campus
• Borrow laptops, and print / photocopy documents
• Reserve group discussion rooms

To understand how Web of Science and its AI features can support research work, an online training workshop titled From Research Question to Publication Strategy: Discover, Explore and Analyse with Web of Science (WoS) & Journal Citaiton Reports (JCR) will be offered. The workshop will introduce practical skills to search literature efficiently and to leverage Research Assistant AI to enhance research workflow.

A professional trainer will:

• Introduce WoS and its search features for literature discovery
• Show how to use WoS Research Assistant AI to explore research topics
• Highlight Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Journal Impact Factor (JIF) to check updated journal rankings for publishing academic works

To enhance effectiveness in learning and teaching with multimedia resources, an online workshop titled JoVE Video Collection for Learning & Teaching in Health Sciences will be offered. JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments) is a large video database of animations and real-life experiments covering diverse topics in Health Sciences, including clinical skills, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, as well as laboratory techniques and safety.

The workshop will showcase various features of JoVE and demonstrate how they can be utilized to develop strategies to support learning, teaching and research activities.

The workshop will introduce practical skills to effectively use the AI-powered features to search for reliable resources, streamline research process and enhance the quality of outputs.

A professional trainer will:

• Introduce Scite and its added value for resource evaluation and discovery
• Explain the role of Smart Citations, Scite’s most prominent feature to assist with literature review by distinguishing between supporting or contrasting statements, or mere mentioning
• Perform live demonstration on various Scite features (Academic Search, AI Research Assistant, Scite Index, Reference Check)

The Library will hold an online workshop titled Searching Subject-Specific Literature@EBSCOhost Databases to introduce a host of databases such as Academic Search Ultimate, Business Source Premier, MEDLINE with Full Text and Sociology Source Ultimate which contain e-journal articles, e-books, dissertations and reports in different subjects.

A professional trainer from EBSCOhost will be invited to conduct the online workshop.

The workshop will cover:

• Navigate the EBSCOhost platform and choose the most relevant databases
• Master Natural Language Search and related AI tools
• Save, cite, and manage search results effectively
• Create a My EBSCOhost account and set up Search/Journal Alerts for ongoing research
