CIHE Library is undertaking an “E-library Project” in collaboration with the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), Chu Hai College of Higher Education (CHCHE), Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) and Tung Wah College (TWC) in 2014-2016. A grant of over HK$50 million has been awarded by the Government of the HKSAR via the QESS to support the implementation of this initiative. The objectives of this project are two-fold:

  1. To develop an online “Collection Sharing and Information Discovery System” (CSIDS) which will facilitate the search for and retrieval of eBooks and other resources from among the five member libraries through a one-stop search interface, and
  2. To enhance the libraries’ digital content by building a shared eBook collection through collaborative purchases among the five participating institutions. It is expected that more than 20,000 e-books will be acquired through the Project.

Launch of Aleph, Primo, and Union Search

The Aleph integrated library system was launched at the CIHE Library in April 2015, followed by the introduction of Primo in November of the same year. Aleph empowered the library to effectively manage its print and digital resources, while and Primo enhanced user experience by providing seamless access to a wide array of library materials, including print and electronic books, journals, databases, and other multimedia resources.

The Union Search on Primo and the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services came into operation in November 2014 and June 2016 respectively. The new discovery platform offered a user‑friendly search interface for faculty members and students across the five institutes, enabling easier access to both physical and electronic collections and allowing users to submit ILL requests online.
