We congratulate all the winners and encourage everyone to make the most of the following e-resources to meet your academic and research needs:

Extended Opening Hours & Refreshment Distribution during the Revision Week & Examination Period

To better cater to the learning needs of students during the revision week and examination period (15 December 2025 – 7 January 2026), the Library continued its practice of extending opening hours on weekdays, public holidays, and weekends, including Sundays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Such an arrangement, which has been implemented over the past two years, has consistently received positive feedback, with high usage rates recorded throughout the period.

Refreshment Distribution StudentsFully aware of the immense stress students experience during the examination period, the Library offered apples and fresh drinks in the lobby of the Learning Commons, providing a respite to them after long hours of study. Additionally, limited-edition postcards designed by a teaching staff member were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Featuring vibrant illustrations and motivational quotes, these postcards offered students timely encouragement and emotional support during this difficult time.

Updates on Computer Accessories for Loan

The Library not only offers laptops, MacBooks, and tablets for loan but also provides a range of computer accessories designed to enhance users’ e-learning experience. These accessories include power adapters, USB cables, headsets, and portable charges.

Laptop StandsRecognizing that some students would try to elevate their laptop screens by using stacks of books or other objects to get a more comfortable viewing height, we have recently expanded our accessories to include laptop stands. These stands are designed to improve user comfort, reduce neck and back strain, and promote better heat dissipation for devices. Workshops and Guided Tours for Specific Study Programmes

Library WorkshopsTo promote and enhance students’ information literacy, the Library organizes a variety of theme-based workshops throughout the academic year, both proactively and upon request. The teaching staff are encouraged to collaborate with the Library to arrange customized workshops tailored to the specific needs of students across different study programmes. These workshops are highly flexible in content and can cover topics such as literature search strategies, academic referencing as well as the use of specialized e-databases and citation management software.

Library Workshops 02The Library also supports the unique research needs of academic staff and assists researchers in preparing their work for publication. In January 2026, an online talk titled How to Get Published in the Time of AI was delivered by an executive publisher from a leading global academic press. The talk provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the rigorous editorial and peer-review processes involved in journal publishing and with useful guidance on the ethical and effective use of AI in scholarly writing.

Guided ToursApart from training workshops and talks, the Library partnered with course instructors to deliver an interactive session tailored to their students, aiming to further enhance their engagement in learning. At the start of the second semester, students from the School of Humanities and Languages participated in a briefing session on library services and a tutorial on the basic use of the Discovery Search platform. This session included a hands-on search exercise, where students located both print books and e-resources based on specific titles curated by the instructor. Additionally, guided library tours were organized upon request to introduce students to the Library’s services, facilities, and subject-specific resources relevant to their study programmes.

Activities of Academic Reading and Writing Recognizing the increasing demand for information and guidance on utilizing library-subscribed resources, the Library plans to invite more professional trainers from various information providers to conduct specialized training sessions. The ultimate aim is to provide stronger support for the research and learning activities of the SFU community.
